Bill Kennedy is a seasoned software executive who has made a career of developing disruptive technologies that solve big, business challenges. With extensive database design and enterprise security knowledge, he pioneered the areas of identity management and virtualization management software development.
Kennedy is also an effective leader, who brings proficiency and profitability to early stage startup operations. He’s a teacher at heart and always looks for ways to coax the best out of his people. His teams are marked by high morale, low turnover, and solid execution. In the past decade, Kennedy successfully led several Austin-based technology companies to acquisition.
Most recently, he was at the helm of Hyper9, Inc., a virtualization management software provider, when it was acquired by SolarWinds in 2011. That same year, CloudMasons, a cloud identity management company that Kennedy sat on the board of directors for, was sold to SailPoint, a leader in governance-based identity management. Prior to that Kennedy founded Beacon Professional Services, a consultative firm focused on identity management services, which was purchased in 2010. In 2003, Kennedy sold a company he co-founded, Waveset Technologies, to Sun Microsystems (now Oracle). At Waveset, he led the R&D and engineering teams to trail blaze the identity management software sector.
With two degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, Kennedy is a Longhorn through and through. He holds a master’s degree in Mathematics and Physics, as well as an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and History Education.
