These Are a Few of Our Favorite (Austin) Things
We feel so lucky to call Austin home and want our visitors to have a great experience in the city we know and love! Here are some of our favorite things to do in the Capital of Texas.
Watch the Bats Fly Out from Congress Avenue Bridge
If you find yourself on South Congress between 7 and 8 p.m., swing by the South Congress bridge to see our bats! The Brazilian Free Tailed bats are welcome guests in Austin—so much so, we even have a festival in their honor every year. The sight of thousands of bats flying over Lady Bird Lake at sunset is truly spectacular. After, head to South Congress for evening activities!
Stroll Down Quintessential South Congress
Nothing says Austin more than a stroll down South Congress Avenue. Buy a pair of cowboy boots from Allen’s boots, eat dinner at Hopdoddy Burger Bar (there is usually a line, but for good reason), or catch a live performance at The Continental Club. It’s a walkable journey through some of Austin’s finest. Plus, it is walking distance to the Congress Bat Bridge.
Enjoy a Food Trailer Picnic
Want to eat, relax, and take in the Texas nature? The Picnic is one of Austin’s most happening food truck parks, featuring the likes of The Mighty Cone, Hey Cupcake and cuisines from across the globe. Snag a picnic table for dinner, and then head down the street to Zilker Park for some R&R under the Texas sun.
Visit The Fareground, Austin’s First Foodhall
Ever wonder what happens when some of Austin’s best chefs come together under one roof? A Food Hall unlike any other. The Fareground is Austin’s newest top eatery located in the heart of downtown. Perfect for a quick bite or a leisurely progressive dinner, you can sample of the best Austin has to offer–Antonelli’s Cheese Shop, Contigo, Dai Due, and more. (Added bonus: it’s on the way to the Congress Ave Bridge!)
Looking for a different great place to eat? Check out the top restaurants in Austin right now. Due to the popularity of these restaurants, we recommend calling ahead to see if reservations are needed. (Pssst: Our current favorite is Loro.)
Spaz Out at the Cedar Street Courtyard
It’s no secret that Austin is the Live Music Capital of World, and we have plenty of live music to prove it. The Cedar Street Courtyard features performances every night, and Wednesday night is legendary: 80s cover band, Spazmatics. The show starts at 9:30 p.m. and is 21 and over. You don’t want to miss this spectacle of a performance from the Revenge-of-the-Nerds-inspired group.
Listen to Jazz at the Elephant Room
Free cool jazz and a happy hour from 6 – 8 p.m.? Count us in. The Elephant Room is a swanky speakeasy located downtown, and is perfect for a relaxing, cool evening of live music. 21 and over only.
“Climb” Mount Bonnell
Looking for the best view in Austin? While it might be called Mount Bonnell, we promise: it’s much more of a hill (there are even stairs). Once you reach the summit, the views are breathtaking. Grab some food on the way and take in the sunset over Lady Bird Lake.
Tee off at Topgolf
Get in some healthy competition with a round (or two) of golf at Topgolf! Located in North Austin, Topgolf is perfect for groups of all sizes and features a wide array of food and beverages. Pro tip: Call ahead to make sure there is space.
Afterwards, swing into the Domain for shopping, fine dining, bars, and classic Austin vibes with plenty of parking.
