Take a Hike and Hear Uber Important Culture Tips: Square Root’s 2018 SXSW Panel Picker Sessions

BY: ZACH HEAD

AUGUST 15, 2017

While you’re enjoying summer and relaxing in the sun, SXSW is heating up as well. The actual festival isn’t until March, but it is already time to start selecting panels. We’re excited to announce that we are entering two panels for contention this year. We believe by showcasing our incredible people and what they’ve accomplished, we can blaze a trail on company culture and the impact it has on other startups and organizations.

UBER IMPORTANT: HOW HR CAN MAKE OR BREAK A STARTUP

Square Root’s cultural champion, Courtney Branson, is partnering with Scott Domann, Netflix’s VP of Talent, and Juan Estrella, Whole Foods’ Director of Human Resources, to breakdown the role HR plays in building a successful startup. They will discuss the importance of focusing on the people and the *uber* negative outcomes of startups that do not.

HOW 5 MONTHS ON THE PCT MADE ME BETTER AT MY JOB

Last year, Square Root’s COO, Elizabeth Schwartz, took a 5-month sabbatical to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. Her adventure has been covered at length (read her story in Austin Business Journal, Austin Inno, and Silicon Hills, just to start), but we wanted to give her the opportunity to speak on it directly. Elizabeth will discuss the invaluable lessons she learned both about herself and the business while hiking along the trail, sharing how this journey transforms the business long-term. She will be joined by Lydia Dishman, the journalist who profiled her journey in Fast Company!

HOW TO VOTE

It takes everybody’s support in order to make these panels happen. Make your voice heard by voting.

Make sure you get your vote in by August 25th to hear from Square Root at SXSW in 2018!
