“We’re #2” may not seem like a common chorus you would hear chanted throughout a company’s office, but it’s been the recent rallying cry here at Square Root after Fortune magazine and Great Place to Work® named us the second best small workplace in America just last week.
You read that right. #2. In the country.
It’s a title we’re especially proud of, as the recognition is based on in-depth evaluations or our perks and benefits and, most importantly, direct employee feedback. Landing a spot on the prestigious list is no easy feat. More than 88,000 employees across 540 companies were surveyed for the 2015 competition, with only 25 selected for the Small Companies category.
This marks the second year in a row that we’ve made the cut, and this year’s #2 placement—and 100% employee satisfaction—is a true testament to our continued commitment to creating a best-in-class culture.
As a technology company, our ability to build great software relies on our ability to first build a great team. We’re now 46-strong, and our culture is a true reflection of the diverse skills and passions every team member, from the beer brewed in-house by our engineering team to the yoga classes taught by one of our very own product marketers. We work hard, offering an annual $3,000 training stipend that employees can utilize for professional development, but that individual empowerment and work ethic is balanced with a flexible work schedule and unlimited vacation policy.
As we continue to grow and our team becomes even more diverse, our four core values keep us aligned: Be Customer Inspired; Think Big. Do Bigger.; Partner; and Thrive. These values continue to serve as a guide for everything we do — from how we hire, to how we create our software, to how we engage with clients.
And because we’re always focused on continuous improvement, don’t think that this #2 spot will keep us satisfied. There’s still room for growth. We’re coming for you, #1.
